It’s (almost) that time of the year again when our stars cling on to their seats at the MES Theatre to see who’s the best and most popular at the Star Awards. But before they get there, we first have to reveal this year’s nominations.
A Million Dollar Dream, which starred Zoe Tay and Chen Hanwei, is turning out to be a dream come true with a total of six nominations (the most this year), including Best Drama Serial and a nod in each of the acting categories. It’s closely followed behind by the Fann & Chris vehicle Doppelganger, which scored five noms.
It seems like this year’s most-hotly contested category is for Best Actress where Fann and Zoe are up against each other for the award, you know, just like old times. It has been seven years (though it feels like it’s been longer) since the queens were nominated in the same category and they’ll be battling it out with fellow past Best Actress winners Rebecca Lim (who won the award last year) and Joanne Peh. Joining them is Carrie Wong, who was also nominated last year. So will 2019 mark Carrie’s ascension into this exalted list of leading ladies?
It’s also good news for Xu Bin, who got his first acting nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category for his turn in Doppelganger. However, he is up against perennial Best Supporting Actor nominee Andie Chen, who hasn’t had much luck when it comes to awards to say the least. Maybe this year is your year, Andie?
